Downtown Parking Information
Greetings Glassboro Family,
In our constant effort to make sure our residents stay informed, I would like to share with you some information.
On January 22nd, The Borough of Glassboro will be implementing a paid parking system in our downtown area. Also, news on the sale of our beloved Angelo’s Diner and the Glassboro branch of the Gloucester County Library System will soon be relocating onto Rowan Blvd.
As for the paid parking, the Borough of Glassboro is one of the last university or college communities in the country to not have paid parking in their downtown. The purpose of implementing paid parking is to increase on-street parking turnover in the downtown and to provide additional flexibility to drivers, making it easier for customers to patronize our local businesses.
As for the parking fees, the first 30 minutes of parking in our downtown will be FREE for on street parking, for Borough lots, and for the two parking garages. Otherwise, parking will be $1.00 an hour for the 1st two hours, and $3.00 an hour for the 3rd and 4th hour. In an effort to maximize turnover there will be a 4 hour maximum time to park. Overnight parking will still be offered in certain Borough Lots at a flat rate of $8.00 per night. The Borough will require that any vehicle parked overnight in these lots must move their vehicles by 7 am. This will maximize the parking for our downtown business community and patrons to our downtown.
Parking time limits will be actively monitored and enforced by Nexus. For more information, a parking map and a how to video on parking in Downtown Glassboro visit www.glassboro.org/parking.
After over 50 years of ownership, Joseph and Mary Ann Justice recently sold Angelo’s Diner to Nexus. Angelo’s will continue to operate as the same diner, we all know and love.
And yes, the Glassboro Branch of the Gloucester County Library System is moving from its existing location to a brand new, updated location on Rowan Blvd. The Borough of Glassboro will also be providing a FREE parking lot, located on Main Street, for library patrons only. The Borough is also actively reviewing the handicap locations in the area of the new library location.
The Borough of Glassboro continues to evolve into a community that will support a walkable urban downtown experience. Here in Glassboro we do not stand still, we move forward. To me, it is a very exciting time in Glassboro. I personally look forward to continuing to embrace our community as we all move forward together!
I would like to thank all of those that shared their issues and concerns regarding these projects. We listened to you and will continue to listen to you. And to all, thank you for being part of the Glassboro Family.
With Respect to All,
John Wallace
Mayor
