Glassboro has commissioned a bronze Glassblower Sculpture and created an art festival to commemorate our namesake industry.

“We have such an incredible mixture of the arts here in Glassboro and the arts are quickly becoming an economic driver for cities.” said Mayor John E. Wallace III. “Glassboro is home to Rowan University which hosts world class dance, theatre, concerts, and of course a World Class Art Gallery. Glassboro is also home to the Heritage Glass Museum which holds many historical glass pieces from our past, not only enriching our residents’ lives but also bringing visitors from around the region.”

This inspiring festival will include dozens of local and area glassblowers, sculptors, painters, metal-smiths, and woodworkers, plus a multitude of other hand-crafters that will offer their items for sale and be demonstrating their skills and artisanship right before your eyes!

Glassboro's Heroes to be honored with Military flyover on Memorial Day

The Glassboro Memorial Day parade committee is thrilled to announce they have requested and have received pending approval for an Air Force fighter jet flyover on Memorial Day, Monday May 28th. The F16 jets will be flown by the New Jersey Air National Guard 177th Fighter Wing in Atlantic City and will soar over the Glassboro war memorial located in the new town square at the corner of High and Main and continue over the parade route as it approaches downtown.

Sculpture of Former Glassboro Mayor Alvin Shpeen Donated to Town Square by Demountable Concepts, Inc

“Former Glassboro Mayor, Alvin Shpeen’s dedication and vision created the groundwork for our revitalization and what has become the new standard in suburban living and a model for cities nationwide,” said Glassboro Councilman John E. Wallace III. “That is why this statue belongs in this location, directly across from his previous office -- to remind us, no matter how much we have to overcome, just what it is that leadership requires; just what it is that citizenship requires. Alvin Shpeen would have turned 87 years old this July. We do well by placing a statue of him here. But we can do no greater honor to his memory than to carry forward the power of his vision and a dedication to our residents.”

County Revolving Loan Fund for Small Business exceeds $3.5 million project mark. 74 local small businesses assisted

Simmons said that Gloucester County, with the support of CBAC, has made 74 loans since July 2014 totaling $1,543,824.21 and by collaborating with banks on a number of those loans, another $2,052,919.79 was loaned to local small businesses for a grand total of $3,596,744.00 in Gloucester County Projects.
