Glassboro’s CommUNITY Day evolves into CommUNITY Weekend with the Inaugural Community Wide Yard Sale on June 9th.

GLASSBORO, NEW JERSEY - Elected officials are pleased to announce that what was once a one-day celebration in Downtown Glassboro has now transformed into a weekend of CommUNITY among Glassboro residents. The CommUNITY Yard Sale on Sunday, June 9th is an event that encourages the entire community to host yard sales during the same weekend as the annual CommUNITY Day.

The CommUNITY Day tradition, spanning 29 years, provides Glassboro residents with the opportunity to celebrate diverse cultures, learn about local nonprofit services, and enjoy a family-friendly community atmosphere.

The yard sale serves as a platform for residents to come together as a community and engage in an activity that involves everyone. Participants are encouraged to clean out their garages, attics, storage sheds, and closets of unwanted treasures for someone else to discover.

Councilwoman Deanna Garlic, Chair of the Health, Welfare, and Recreation committee, emphasizes the importance of community involvement in the yard sale. She states, "The yard sale encourages residents to come together in one place and unite as a community, engaging in a collective effort. Participants can declutter their spaces without adding to landfill waste."

Participation in the yard sale is free, but residents must sign up by Friday, May 31st to be included on the Borough's website and social media platforms. Registration can be completed online at Glassboro.org or in person at the Glassboro Clerk’s Office. A rain date for the CommUNITY yard sale has been set for the following Sunday, June 16th.

Councilman Andrew Halter highlights the benefits of the community yard sale, stating, "This event provides residents with an opportunity to organize before the official start of summer. We are excited to offer a community activity that attracts yard sale enthusiasts to Glassboro while also serving the community."

Glassboro also reminds residents that yard sale signs should not be posted earlier than seven days before the sale and must be removed within 24 hours after the sale, as per Ordinance No. 09-46.

Questions can be directed to Glassboro’s Economic Development Department at (856) 881-9230 ext 88322.
