Read MoreIt has been almost 120 years since the Glassboro Public Fountain was installed between the intersection of Academy and State Streets. It was placed on July 10, 1900. It was a drinking fountain that doubled as a lamp post. Since that fountain was placed before the time of automobiles, it faced many dangers as technology advanced and was relocated on South Academy Street after 21 years and being struck four times by automobiles. Several years later it mysteriously disappeared, and was never seen again.
The public fountain had a special significance in Glassboro’s past and during the summer of 2019 its long awaited replacement was installed in anticipation of Glassboro’s 100th Year Anniversary of incorporation scheduled for 2020. Glassboro was incorporated as a borough on March 18, 1920, replacing Glassboro Township.

To commemorate this history, the Borough has issued a Request for Expression of Interest for artists to apply. Specifications and application process are available at glassboro.org/bidsrfprfq until June 6, 2019.
The mural site will be on the exterior wall of a restroom pavilion on the South side area of the Glassboro Town Square visible from High Street.
“It's impossible to overstate the importance of dedicating space for the arts and entertainment district to thrive,” said Glassboro Councilwoman Daniele Spence. “We are committing space, resources, funding and ongoing efforts to meet the unique needs of artists from the area. We need to allow their creativity to inspire us in our development of our downtown’s image.”

The 177th Fighter Wing’s motto is “Community Based, Global Impact.” This will be the third time that Glassboro’s fallen will be honored by the NJANG 177th Fighter Wing. A flyover was approved in 2018, but was cancelled due to weather. “We are proud to honor our fallen heroes and those who have and are presently serving by supporting flyovers for events like this one in Glassboro” said Colonel Bradford Everman, 177th Fighter Wing Commander.
